Salsa Class and Exploring El Poblado

I started today with a solid breakfast and latte. Afterwards, I walked the neighborhood of El Poblado looking at the different shops, restaurants, bars, etc. It is clear now why this area is busy with tourists. There is so much to do and so many options everywhere.

I did some grocery shopping and laundry as well. The Airbnb has a shared kitchen space and washing machine (no dryer though). The way the host sorts the fridge and pantry places for each of the rooms made my OCD brain so happy.

After some lunch, it was time for salsa lessons! The class took place at a dance school in El Poblado and for this time slot, I was the only student. I got 1 on 1 instruction from a woman named Deana who clearly knew her stuff. Her movements were fluid and elegant where mine were robotic, but I got the hang of it after a while. To be honest, I was just hyper-focued on not stepping on her toes the whole time. Because of this, I didn’t actually get any pics or vids of the actual dancing, but it was a blast nonetheless. Deana was also a very cool person to meet. Turns out, she was born in Houston very close to my extended family that lives there. She studied at Texas Tech, started working right out of college, and realized that she needed a break or shift in her life. With one of her parents living in Colombia, she moved to Medellin where she now teaches dance at the age of 26. It was cool to connect with someone who also wanted a change in life after being in school for so long.

I wrapped up the day with dinner at an Indian restaurant I found. This was the first Indian place I have seen so far, and just as always, the venue was full of all the congregated brown peeps. The practice of trying Indian food in new locations is almost ritualistic for my family and I at this point. And it was actually quite good.
